This chapter recounts the author's trip from
California to Costa Rica on the Pan-American
Highway. The next chapter contains stories of
other people's trips which they submitted to us. This
includes driving in recreation vehicles, as well as
a trip pulling a trailer.

While you are making your trip, keep a log or notes of everything that
happened to you such as road conditions, your routes, experiences at border
crossings, hotels and motels where you stayed and anything else that may
help someone who is planning to make this trip in the future. This way
we can include your accounts and any significant changes in forthcoming
