Many expats ­ men mostly ­ come to Nicaragua looking for love
(even if they don't realize it at first). Many foreign men enjoy the
fact that they can date women much younger than themselves
without being stoned in the street, or subject to audible
harassment (people will whisper, though).


It is becoming more commonplace to see older gringo men with
younger ­ sometimes much, much younger ­ Nicaraguan
women. The more it occurs, the more accepted it is becoming,
sort of. It is also becoming more common to see North
American or European women with Nicaraguan men, also
oftentimes younger.
There are laws protecting minors here, and Nicaragua is starting
to crack down on sexual tourism. If you are a pedophile or into
kiddy porn, Nicaragua does not want you. Nicaraguans are
generally friendly and sociable people, and it is not too hard to
meet other people and strike up conversations with strangers,
even ones your own age. Some of the more educated
Nicaraguans speak English. Most gringos who date Nicaraguans,
however, do so in Spanish, or a hodgepodge of broken English
and Spanish (and hand signals).
It is important to note that, while many Nicaraguan women are
attractive, friendly and doting
partners, the imbalance in
power relationships between
gringo men and Nica women
often make sustainable
relationships difficult work. The
power balance often creates a
situation of opportunism on
both parts: gringo is looking for
a hot young Nicaraguan girl to
make him feel young and
swinging again, and Nica is
looking for economic stability.
But no one ever said love was
gonna be easy.
Nicaragua has beautiful women.


Infidelity is rampant in Nicaragua. It is so common, that many
families have turned it into a cottage industry, building "Hotel
Intimos
" (or hooker hotels) along the side of the road. The
motels are, almost exclusively, for cheating (that's why there are
curtains in front of each driveway, so others can't see who is
parked). They are also used by young couples who are still living
at home.
Women will most likely have no trouble meeting men here. Just
the contrary, they will most likely have to fend off male suitors.
For men, on the other hand, the task is slightly more
complicated. Taking Spanish classes and/or putting yourself in
some other non-assuming social situation usually works best.
Bars work in a pinch, but meeting a women in a bar here is the
same as meeting a woman in a bar anywhere else in the world.
There is no secret to finding companionship and love in
Nicaragua (the former being easier to come by than the later).
But most people who are looking for love here seem to figure it
out eventually. So you probably can too.
