This tour offers an exciting journey through Ecuadors best locations: the beautiful colonial Quito, the famous market in Otavalo, the perfect cone shaped Cotopaxi Volcano, Riobamba and the lush Amazon Jungle.
Day 01 Arrival in Quito
Upon arrival in Quito airport you will be transferred to your hotel in the city. Lodging at Anahi Boutique Hotel 4*
Day 02 Quito City tour and Equator Monument (B)
The tour begins with a visit to the Independence Square, where the Presidential Palace, the Cathedral and El Sagrario Church are located. We will also visit the Church of La Compania (1605), with its amazing gilt altars. This is considered as one of the finest examples of baroque art in America, and the Moorish influence can also be noted in the intricate designs carved on the magnificent red and gold columns and ceilings. Afterwards we will take you to the church and monastery of San Francisco (1535). This is the oldest Ecuadorian church and the main altar inside is a spectacular example of baroque carving. There is also a fine collection of artwork, including paintings, sculptures and furniture's dating back to the 16th century. Finally, we will drive up to the highest viewpoint of the city, El PanecilloÂ hill from where we will have a spectacular view of Quito. Continue to the Equator at La Mitad del Mundo (the middle of the world.) This is the site where, in 1736, Charles-Marie de la Condamine's expedition made the measurements that demonstrated that this was indeed the equator. Here visitors have the rare opportunity to be on two hemispheres at the same time! A monument was built to mark the site and visitors can take an elevator right to the top, as well as visiting the excellent ethnographic museum inside. Day 03 Quito / Otavalo (B)
Departing from Quito, we'll drive north to the city of Cayambe and then continue to the city of Otavalo. Check in the hotel and then we continue to visit the beautiful Cuicocha Lake. Later on we have some free time for shopping in Cotacachi town, famous for its quality leather goods. We visit the indigenous village of Peguche where we have the opportunity to meet the well known Otavalo Indigenous people. Hotel Hacienda Pueblo Viejo or similar
Day 04 Otavalo market / Machachi (B, BB)
Morning visit at the famous Indian market in Otavalo. You'll arrive just in time to bargain for vibrant and beautiful tapestries, local paintings, hand-knitted wool sweaters, socks and gloves, wood carvings, silver jewelry, embroidered blouses and straw hats, to name only a few of the items on offer. Then we will be transported up to the beautiful highlands of the Mojanda Lakes. Enjoy great views of the Ecuadorian Andes. Afterwards we have a car ride south towards the foothills of Cotopaxi Volcano. Hacienda La Cienega or similar
Day 05 Cotopaxi / Riobamba (B, BB)
Morning visit at the beautiful Cotopaxi National Park. Enjoy great views of the impressive Cotopaxi Volcano, considered as one of the highest and most active volcanoes in the world. We will also do a short hike in the highlands of these beautiful surroundings. Transport south towards the city of Riobamba. Hotel. (B, LB).Hotel Chimborazo or similar
Day 06 Riobamba / Baņos (B)
This day we will have the opportunity to travel aboard the famous Ecuadorian Andean Train (train price is not included). The journey will offer us excellent views of the high Andes and we will also admire the impressive Devil Nose Pass. From the small town of Alausi we will be transported to our hotel in the charming town of Banos at 1,800 m of altitude. (B).Hotel Sangay or similar
Day 07 Puyo / Amazon Jungle lodge (B, D)
After a relaxing morning we will drive east towards the intriguing rainforest of the upper basin of the great Amazon River. Following the impressive canyon of the Pastaza River we will first arrive in Puyo, a town located on the edge of the jungle. From here we will continue our drive towards the shores of the Napo River, one of the biggest tributaries of the Amazon. Jungle Lodge accommodation.Yacuma Lodge (B, D).
Day 08 Amazon (B, L, D)
Full day jungle tour. Lodge accommodation. (B, L, D) After breakfast in the lodge, we'll begin a 3-4 hour trek through the deep primary rainforest. Along the way an indigenous guide will show us the many species of plants and describe their medicinal purposes to us. With luck we perhaps will see monkeys and birds such as oropendolas and parrots. Return to the lodge for lunch and after a short rest we will make a walk in the forest to observe the different kind of trees cultivated by the locals: bananas, papaya tree, pineapple, orange trees, sugar cane, etc. Then we continue to the small settlement where we can observe (and buy) pottery made by the locals. Later on we continue our walk for a visit to the Quechua indigenous community of Chontayacu, where you will have the opportunity to learn about local customs and the way of life of the native people of the jungle. Later in the afternoon return to the lodge for dinner. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).
Day 09 Amazon / Quito (B)
