In this package you will travel through the Avenue of the Volcanoes, a 325 km (200 mile) valley located between the grand Ecuadorian Andes. You’ll visit the Amazing Cotopaxi National Park and the beautiful city of Cuenca, as well as the famous “Devil’s Nose” Train.
Day 01 Quito / Cotopaxi / Riobamba (L, D)
Today you’ll head south towards Riobamba, through the Avenue of the Volcanoes and will visit Cotopaxi along the way. Cotopaxi National Park is one of the most important parks in Ecuador. Do not miss the sights of Cotopaxi Volcano, the second highest peak in the country. Lunch will be served in a local restaurant. Upon arrival to Riobamba you’ll have a short tour to see its main spots, like plazas and churches. This city is surrounded by volcanoes, which gives it some of the best views around. Additionally it offers great food, museums, parks, and sporting events. Upon arrival to the hotel you will enjoy dinner. Lodging at the Hacienda Abraspungo in Riobamba
Day 02 Riobamba / Andes Train / Ingapirca /Cuenca (B, L, D)
Early morning you’ll head towards Alausi Station to ride the famous Train of the Andes. Along the way you’ll see the oldest chapel in the country (called Balbanera) and Colca Lake. The train will take you on an exciting downhill zigzag ride, where you’ll pass the famous “Devil’s nose” (note: the train operates only on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays). After lunch at a local restaurant, you’ll visit the Ingapirca Inca Ruins, the most important ones in Ecuador. The complex includes a fortress, terraces, houses and a castle. Day 3 Cuenca / Quito (B, L)
Located in the highlands of Ecuador, this well preserved World Heritage Site is home to beautiful churches, parks, and museums. Many say its Ecuador’s most beautiful city. Additionally, this colonial city benefits from a mild climate and many surrounding attractions, activities and handicrafts. After lunch, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight back to Quito.
