Day 2 Granada - Masaya National Park by night (B, D)

We will begin the day by visiting the oldest city in the Americas: Granada. On this excursion, we will visit the Casa de los Leones, San Francisco Convent and its Museum, with its vast exposition of pre-Columbian statutes and pottery, the colorful market, the charming cobblestone streets, and numerous architecturally significant churches and monuments. Part of the tour will happen by horse carriage. In the late afternoon, we will drive to the Masaya Volcano National Park. Our late arrival (almost by dark) will give us the opportunity to see thousands of bats exiting the caves in the area. Then, we will walk to the stunning and active Santiago crater (east side), where the glowing lava can be seen. In fact, it’s one of the few places in the world where such an active volcano can be observed up close. Return to Granada for dinner at famous restaurant including Nicaraguan music show. Lodging at Hotel La Gran Francia (junior suite)

Then we will learn how to make “tortillas”, a basic meal used by each Nicaraguan Family. By traditional oxcart, we will continue discovering the huge Hacienda, visiting several places of interest like the “mirador” (viewpoint), the “mariposario”, where many species of butterflies have been raised, the reforestation area and the local rum factory.
