Day 01 Mexico / Morelia/Patzcuaro
Pick-up from your downtown hotel. (Transfer from Airport not included). About 4 hours ride to Morelia. The city, also called city of orchids, is built of pink rock and belongs to these particular cities of Mexico which still preserve their flair of past times. Looking down onto the city with its bell towers, cupolas and palaces from the surrounding mountain it seems to have the atmosphere of old Florence. Morelia was founded by the viceroy of Spain Mendoza in 1541 and named Valladolid. In honor of Jose Maria Morelos (1765 to 1815), an important figure in Mexico's s Fight for Independence, born in Morelia, the city's name was changed to Morelia in 1828. The well preserved city center was declared UNESCO World Heritage in 1991. After visiting Morelia, ride to Patzcuaro. Overnight at Mision Patzcuaro.
Day 02 Patzcuaro / Guadalajara (B)
Breakfast at hotel. Visit of Patzcuaro. The beautiful town by the lake with its butterfly nets still gives an idea about life in the past. It is yet highly influenced by elements of Indian culture. The beautiful old houses were built around 1550 when Patzcuaro was a diocesan town. The bishop Vasco de Quiroga (Tata Vasco, 1470 to 1565), protector and tutor of the Indians, still represents an important figure in Patzcuaro. Afterwards, about 4 hour ride to Guadalajara. Day 03 Tequila /Tlaquepaque (B, L)
Breakfast at hotel. In the morning you will visit Tequila and the Hacienda San Jose del Refugio where the world famous Tequila of Herradura is produced. Ride to Tlaquepaque, a beautiful suburb of Guadalajara with lots of possibilities to see and buy Mexican handicrafts. Lunch accompanied by Mariachi music in Tlaquepaque. Return to hotel. Day 04 Guadalajara / Guanajuato (B)
Breakfast at hotel. In the morning, visit of Guadalajara. Carefully restored old buildings as well as various squares, parks, fontains and streets ornamented with roses give the city a beautiful colonial atmosphere. Ride to Guanajuato in the afternoon. Overnight at Holiday Inn Express.
Day 05 Guanajuato / San Miguel de Allende (B)
Breakfast at hotel. Visit of Guanajuato. The city is located in a small valley surrounded by mountains. The wealth brought to the city by the discovery of silver in the surrounding mountains in the 16th century can still be seen today. Beautiful old buildings, small streets, nice squares with laurel trees and a wide variety of all kinds of visitors make Guanajuato an experience. Ride to San Miguel de Allende in the afternoon. San Miguel de Allende, an upscale historic town is known for its mild weather and recent influence of foreign residents, most notably from the United States and Canada. Its cobblestone streets and colonial architecture have inspired artists for ages. Day 06 Queretaro / Mexico (B)
Breakfast at hotel. Visit of San Miguel de Allende. This picturesque town was founded by the Spaniards in 1542 as Mission San Miguel. In honor of Ignacio Allende, locally born and raised, ‘de Allende’ was added to the official name of the town. Do to its steep and narrow cobblestone streets, lots of private palaces from the 18th century and its nice avenues was declared UNESCO World Heritage. The city is located at the foot of Cerro de las Campañas surrounded by mountains and famous for its beautiful buildings, cathedrals and squares, as well as its nice fountains and parks. Founded by the Otomi Indians, long before the discovery of Mexico by the Spaniards and was conquered by the Aztecs in the 15th century.
