The mountainous department of Santander is a perfect place for adventure activities such as hiking, white water rafting, paragliding, rappelling and kayaking. The rustic charm of the colonial villages and the friendliness of its people make this region to one of the most worthy ones in Colombia.
Day 1 Arrival in Bogota
Upon arrival in Bogota, you’ll be transferred to your hotel. Lodging in Bogota
Day 2 Bogotá – San Gil (B)
You’ll be transferred to the airport for your flight to Bucaramanga. Then, we’ll provide a two hour land transfer to San Gil to a very pleasant hacienda hotel with pool within wonderful landscapes. Short briefing to introduce the program of the next five days and the different skills needed. The rest of the day is at leisure to enjoy the wonderful hacienda. Lodging in San Gil
Day 3 Caving and Rappel (B)
What a thrill caving is. This activity will confront us with the unknown and will create strong emotions. Touring through the caverns of this region is a great pleasure. Once we get into the caverns we will visit impressive walls of stone. Like in all of our caverns we will find stalagmites and stalactites, stone formations created long ago by water dripping from the ceilings and walls. They form beautiful ornaments in the interior of the caverns and transform them into majestic treasures. Later on we continue to another highlight “Rappelling in Waterfalls”. Abseiling from one of these mighty natural walls in a waterfall, surrounded by beautiful countryside, is an incredibly exciting experience and a great feeling. Day 4 Country life in San Gil (B, L)
Today we will get to know the Colombian country lifestyle in a beautiful local farm. The “Finca Pachamana” is located in the Valle de San José and offers a great variety of organically grown agricultural products. The hosts are pioneers of the eco-logical movement of the region, and they will serve a delicious vegetarian lunch. Lodging in San Gil
Day 5 Rafting and Hiking (B)
The Fonce River is the birthplace of rafting in Colombia. The river‘s own characteristics make it an adventure in both the dry and the rainy season. Along beautiful, basically untouched countryside and an abundant flora and fauna the Fonce River will carry our raft for 20 km. In still waters you can go for a swim and relax from the exciting adventure. On our way we go through rapids of grades 1 to 4 during our four hour tour. In the afternoon, you will walk on trails full of history (with its myths and legends). You will get to know our beautiful countryside and a great variety of crops. This hike takes place in the municipality of Paramo. You walk for 45 minutes through almost untouched nature until you reach the waterfall. Jump into the various ponds, take a massage in the waterfall, relax or just play around. Take your time! Lodging in San Gil
Day 6 Departure from San Gil (B)
After breakfast overland transport back to Bogota or transfer to the airport in Bucaramanga to your flight to Bogota.
