This ultimate Amazon Adventure starts high in the Andes and descends into the Amazon cloud forest, where you will spend some days rafting and camping along the river banks. You’ll encounter along the way a high diversity of flora and fauna.
Day 01 Arrival in Juliaca (Puno) (D)
Upon arrival to the airport in Juliaca we will meet you and transfer you to the hotel. We will enjoy a welcome dinner.
Day 02 Juliaca – Sandia (bus) (L, D)
An early morning departure in our bus will take us across the Altiplano from Juliaca in Puno into the Cordillera Carabaya. Crossing a 15,000 ft. high pass we will begin our descent into the cloud forest. We will pass by the Pre-Inca town of Cuyo Cuyo, and then continue the road towards the town of Sandia, were we spend the night in a local hostel.
Day 03 Sandia – Putina Punku - River put in (bus) (B, L, D)
We will continue our drive into the cloud forest until we finally arrive at the headwaters of the Tambopata river. Here just below San Juan de Loro or Putina, we will put-in for the rafting. Camp.
Day 11 Macaw Lick – Jungle Lodge in Puerto Maldonado (river) (B, L)
At the crack of dawn we will see a rowdy crowd of macaws with their variegated brilliance spattering the clay riverbank. Later a dug- out motor canoe will take us to our jungle lodge in Puerto Maldonado.
Day 12 Puerto Maldonado (B)
After breakfast transfer to the airport for your flight out of Puerto Maldonado
Days 04-05 Tampobata River (river) (B, L, D)
As we leave the last traces of civilization we will enter to the pristine rain forest using the river as a highway. We will camp on a sandy beach along the way where we will see plenty of wild animal tracks.
Days 06-10 Tampobata River – Macaw Lick (river) (B, L, D)
Surrounded by lush vegetation, we will run Class III and IV rapids. Possibly there will be good chances of seeing monkeys, capybaras, tapirs, and giant river otters among others animals. Our journey will end at the macaw lick where we will spend the night in a lodge. We will also enjoy hikes to explore the jungle and find wildlife
