In this two week tour you’ll see all the great highlights that Peru has to offer. Archeological sites north and south of the country, the Amazon Jungle, the mythical Nazca lines, the incomparable Lake Titicaca and the most important Inca sanctuary: Machu Picchu.
Day 01 Arrival to Lima
Upon arrival to Lima, you will be transferred to the hotel. Resting on the Peruvian coastline, Lima is the country's largest city with nearly ten million people. Declared a World Heritage Site, downtown Lima is filled with many historic, colonial buildings, such as the famous Cathedral of Lima and the Presidential Palace. Day 02 Lima / Chiclayo / Trujillo (B)
In the morning, you will be transferred to the airport. Upon arrival to Chiclayo, you will be transferred to the hotel. In the afternoon you'll visit Tucume pyramid complex. Then, visit the Royal Tombs Museum (closed on Mondays), one of the finest in South America. The museum holds a collection of finely crafted gold artefacts and ceramics recovered from the Lord of Sipan Tomb. Day 03 Trujillo / Lima (B, L) (B, L)
You’ll be privately transferred to Trujillo (3,5 hrs approximately). In the afternoon visit the Sun & Moon Temples. The complex is dominated by two huge adobe brick buildings: the Pyramid of the Sun, or Huaca Del Sol, and the artificial platform called Huaca de la Luna, or Temple of the Moon. Lunch will be served in a small sea side restaurant. Then, continue to Chan Chan, capital of the Kingdom of Chimor, also known as the Chimu Empire. It represents America's largest pre Hispanic mud-brick settlement,and includes walls, labyrinths, plazas, houses and temples. Then, transfer to the airport for your flight to Lima. Day 04 Lima / Paracas (B)
You’ll be privately transferred to Paracas (3 hrs approximately). Spend the rest of the day at leisure. Lodging at La Hacienda Hotel in Paracas
Day 05 Paracas / Nazca (B)
In the morning you’ll enjoy a 2 hour panoramic excursion to Ballestas Islands, where you'll be able to observe sea lions and seabirds like the Guanay Cormorants and Peruvian Pelicans. If you are lucky, you might even see one of the famous Humboldt penguins. Then, you’ll be privately transferred to Nazca. Along the way, visit the city of Ica and Huacachina oasis with its amazing surrounding sand dunes. Upon arrival to Nazca you’ll be transferred to the hotel. Lodging at the Majoro Hotel in Nazca
Day 06 Nazca / Arequipa (B)
In the morning, fly over the mysterious Nazca Lines (30 minutes). The Nazca Lines refer to figures created centuries ago in the Nazca Desert. These figures, varying from simple lines to detailed monkeys and lizards can only be viewed from the sky. Then you’ll be transferred to Arequipa. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Arequipa´s historic downtown is home to many white buildings made with a pearly volcanic rock. Day 07 Arequipa (B)
After arrival, you’ll enjoy a guided sightseeing tour to the White City, passing by the Main Square, Cathedral, San Francisco Square and Church, Colonial District of Yanahuara, neighborhood of San Lazaro and Santa Catalina Convent. Day 08 Arequipa / Puno (B)
You’ll be transferred to the bus station for your regular bus to Puno. Upon arrival you’ll be transferred to the hotel. Puno is known for its strong culture, such as their handicrafts and dancing and has thus been referred to as Peru’s folkloric capital. Here you can enjoy the atmosphere and culture and take in the impressive sights that Puno has to offer. Lodging at Eco Inn Hotel in Puno
Day 09 Puno (B, L)
Today you’ll enjoy an excursion to the Uros floating Islands. These islands are located within the Titicaca National Reserve, where the Uros continue to live like their ancestors used to. They still preserve their customs and system of communal life. Lodging at La Hacienda Hotel in Puno
Day 10 Puno / Cusco (B, L)
Transfer to the bus station for your bus ride to Cusco (the trips takes about 10 hours). You’ll make several stops along the way (entrance fees not included) in places such as Andahuaylillas with its colonial church; Raqchi Archaeological Park; La Raya, where you’ll see typical highland flora and fauna; and Pukara Archaeological Site. Day 11 Cusco (B)
Today enjoy a guided sightseeing tour to the Imperial City of Cusco. Some of the landmarks you’ll see are: the main square, which was scene for many key events in Cusco’s history; the Cathedral, the Santo Domingo Convent, built on the Koricancha, an important temple dedicated to the worship of the Sun. Afterwards, visit the nearby ruins: Sacsayhuaman Fortress, an imposing example of Inca military architecture; Kenko, a ritual site with underground galleries and a semicircular amphitheater; Puka Pukara, the red fortress and finally Tambomachay, the Inca Baths. Day 12 Sacred Valley (B, L)
Early in the morning, enjoy an excursion to the Pisac artisan market (Tue, Thu and Sun), where you can buy colorful handicrafts and will have the opportunity to attend a Quechua Mass (Only Sundays). Afterwards, a typical buffet lunch will be served, followed by a tour to the Ollantaytambo Fortress. Ollantaytambo was the site of the only successful Incan battle against the Spanish. Day 13 Machu Picchu (B, L)
Transfer from the hotel to the Train Station. A once in a lifetime experience awaits you, on one of the most scenic and interesting train journeys in the world! The picturesque journey along the Urubamba River takes you to the legendary city of the Incas: Machu Picchu. This is the most famous and impressive Incan site. Divided into three districts; this site was intricately built using impressive, ancient techniques. Upon arrival to the lost city, enjoy a guided tour to the ruins. Day 14 Cusco /Puerto Maldonado (B, L, D)
You’ll be transferred to the airport for your flight to Puerto Maldonado Upon arrival, you will be transferred to the port on the Madre de Dios River. Then, you’ll enjoy a 25 minute journey by motor boat down the River. From here, the trail takes you on a 2-mile walk through secondary forest, until you reach a small canal. Here you’ll board canoes and paddle 220 yards through a flooded forest of 100 feet tall Mauritian palms. As the canal opens onto the shimmering surface of the lake, we transfer to a catamaran and leisurely row across half the lake to the lodge. After lunch you’ll rest for a brief moment to avoid the early afternoon heat. Then, once again board the catamaran and set off to explore the west end of the lake. After dinner, you’ll once again canoe down the river in look for the large and extremely rare Black Caimans. Lodging at the Sandoval Lake Lodge in Puerto Maldonado
Day 15 Puerto Maldonado (B, L, D)
A pre-dawn wake-up call will allow you to be on the lake by sunrise. With some luck, you’ll encounter the Giant Otter family that lives in the lake. Sunrise is a perfect time for bird watching. You’ll then return to the lodge for a late breakfast. Afterwards, learn how the Brazil nuts are collected and commercialized. After lunch, you’ll have about an hour to relax. Then, once again board the catamaran to explore the eastern part of the lake, where you might see one or several of the five species of monkeys that live in the riparian forest. After dinner, you can try again to spot some Black Caimans on the lake, or go on a short night hike through the jungle. Lodging at the Sandoval Lake Lodge in Puerto Maldonado
Day 16 Puerto Maldonado / Lima (B)
After breakfast at dawn, take a final short paddle around the west end of the lake to try and see the Giant Otters. Then, return to Puerto Maldonado to catch the flight to Lima. Upon arrival, you’ll be transferred to the hotel. Lodging at the San Agustin Colonial Hotel in Lima
Day 17 Lima / Departure (B)
Visit the Colonial & Modern city of Lima. You’ll be transferred to the airport in time for your international departure.
