The Antisana Volcano, Ecuador’s fourth largest mountain is very exciting to climb! You’ll see the most impressive Andean views and hopefully highland wildlife.
Day 01 Quito – El Tambo (D, BB)
We’ll be driven from Quito to El Tambo on the Papallacta highlands. From here, our luggage and equipment will be carried by mules. We’ll start trekking for about four hours, heading south-west to the lower plains around the volcano lake. We’ll set camp at 3800 meters.
Day 02 Santa Lucia Highlands (B, D, BB)
We’ll start early our longest part of the trek, which will take five or six hours. We’ll climb some hills as we cross a lush Polylepis forest, and then we will continue till we reach our next camp site on Santa Lucia highlands on the north-western side of the Antisana volcano. From here we can enjoy magnificent views of the impressive volcano. Along the way we might have the chance of spotting a condor. We’ll camp at 4200 meters.
Day 03 Southern Peak of Antisana (B, D, BB)
Today we’ll trek for about six hours, towards the base of the southern peak of Antisana. Along the way we’ll traverse the moraines near to the glaciers of the beautiful volcano. We will set camp at 4500 meters, just below the impressive southern peak. The landscape here is spectacular!
Day 4 Mica Lagoon – Quito (B, BB)
This morning we will trek towards the shores of Mica lagoon, where we will meet our car and then be transported back to Quito. Watch out for condors along the way!
