Day 01 Arrival to Lima

Upon arrival to Lima, you will be transferred to the hotel. Resting on the Peruvian coastline, Lima is the country’s largest city with nearly ten million people. Declared a World Heritage Site, downtown Lima is filled with many historic, colonial buildings, such as the famous Cathedral of Lima and the Presidential Palace. Visitors will fall in love with the diverse cuisine served in the city’s countless restaurants, including the ever popular exquisite local seafood! Lodging at the Leon de Oro Hotel in Lima

Day 02 Lima / Cusco (B)

Transfer to the airport. At arrival to Cusco, you will be transferred to the hotel. Afterwards, enjoy a tour to Cusco, the city constructed on the foundations of Inca palaces. We will start at "Koricancha" or the Temple of the Sun, then pass on to the "Plaza de Armas", where we will enter the Cathedral with its fine wooden sculptures, altars and its paintings. Afterwards we'll leave the city to visit Sacsayhuaman Fortress, the Temple of Kenko, the ruins of Puka-Pukara and Tambomachay. Lodging at the San Agustin Internacional in Cusco

Day 03 Cusco / Sacred Valley / Cusco (B, L)

Enjoy a full day excursion that will take you to the “Sacred Valley of the Incas’, passing Pisac, with its typical market (only Tue, Thu and Sun) and picturesque cultivated terraces in the mountain slopes. Pisac is also famous for its fairs. Lunch is included. Then, continue up the Urubamba valley and visit the Fortress of Ollantaytambo. Lodging at the San Agustin Internacional in Cusco

Day 04 Cusco / Machu Picchu / Cusco (B, L)

Transfer from the hotel to the Train Station. A once in a lifetime experience awaits you, on one of the most scenic and interesting train journeys in the world! The picturesque journey along the Urubamba River takes you to the legendary city of the Incas: Machu Picchu. This is the most famous and impressive Incan site. Divided into three districts; this site was intricately built using impressive, ancient techniques. Upon arrival to the lost city, enjoy a guided tour to the ruins. Lunch is included in a local restaurant. Then, return to Cusco by train. Lodging at the San Agustin Internacional in Cusco

Day 05 Cusco / Puerto Maldonado (B, L, D)

Transfer to the airport for your flight to Puerto Maldonado. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to the port on the Madre de Dios River. Then, you’ll enjoy a 25 minute journey by motor boat down the River. From here, the trail takes you on a 2-mile walk or rickshaw ride through secondary forest, until you reach a small canal. Here you’ll board canoes and paddle 220 yards through a flooded forest of 100 feet tall Mauritian palms. As the canal opens onto the shimmering surface of the lake, we transfer to a catamaran and leisurely row across half the lake to the lodge. After lunch you’ll rest for a brief moment to avoid the early afternoon heat. Then, once again board the catamaran and set off to explore the west end of the lake. You’ll drift to the sounds of hundreds of Red-Bellied Macaws as they return to the palm forest to roost. At nightfall return to the lodge for dinner. After dinner, you’ll once again canoe down the river in look for the large and extremely rare Black Caimans. On clear starlit nights, you will be able to float in the middle of the lake and marvel at the sky’s luster. Lodging at the Sandoval Lake Lodge in Puerto Maldonado

Day 06 Puerto Maldonado (B, L, D)

A pre-dawn wake-up call will allow you to be on the lake by sunrise. With some luck, you’ll encounter the Giant Otter family that lives in the lake. Sunrise is a perfect time for bird watching, as most of the birds around the lake actively fish at this time. Hopefully you’ll catch some photographs of the prehistoric- looking Hoatzins! You’ll then return to the lodge for a late breakfast. Afterwards, set off into the virgin forest near the lake to see some immense wild Brazil nut trees and learn how the nuts are collected and commercialized. After lunch, you’ll have about an hour to relax. Then, once again board the catamaran to explore the eastern part of the lake, where you might see one or several of the five species of monkeys that live in the riparian forest. After dinner, you can try again to spot some Black Caimans on the lake, or go on a short night hike through the jungle. Lodging at the Sandoval Lake Lodge in Puerto Maldonado

Day 07 Puerto Maldonado / Lima (B)

After breakfast at dawn, take a final short paddle around the west end of the lake to try and see the Giant Otters. Then, return to Puerto Maldonado to catch the flight to Lima. Upon arrival, you’ll be transferred to the hotel. Lodging at the Leon de Oro in Lima
