While visiting Peru, you'll be able to learn about the Inca Empire, the most powerful culture in Pre-Columbian South America. The sacred city of Machu Picchu (meaning "Old Mountain" in Quechua), is their most impressive legacy of¨Peru. The "Lost City" was discovered by the Western World in 1911. Since then, it has been astonishing visitors around the world with its magnetic beauty.

Machu Picchu is located in Cusco Peru, capital of the Inca rule. This ancient city has also captivated visitors for its blend of Incan structures and colonial architecture. Both Machu Picchu and Cusco are World Heritage sites of Peru declared by UNESCO.

For the serious adventurer, it is possible to hike along the Inca Trail, the route the Incas used to walk from Cusco to Machu Picchu.

Another majestic Inca site near Cusco is Pisac, known for its astronomical observatory. Its architecture is a blend of Incan and colonial style, and in its colorful main plaza you will find an opportunity to shop for crafts that will take you back you to the ancient times!

The Orient Express Railway is the luxurious way to travel through the Andes of Peru, with routes through Cusco, Machu Picchu and Lake Titicaca. This is for sure the best way to experience and travel to the Andes!

Also part of the Sacred Valley of the Incas is Ollantaytambo, located in the Urubamba province. This complex is known for its fortress walls, as well as for being an important religious, agricultural and military compound in the old Inca days.

In the Vilcabamba mountain range, travel to Choquequirao; it is another important Inca site of Peru, far more secluded than Machu Picchu but equally impressive. It takes a challenging two day hike tour, but it is well worth the effort!

Another not to miss travel destination is Lake Titicaca in Peru, the world's highest navigable lake, at 12 500 feet above sea level (3809 meters). The breathtaking scenery is something that can not be described in words or shown in pictures...you have to see it for yourself! In the lake banks, the charming city of Puno is located, famous for its traditional dances and crafts. From here, you can take a tour and visit the ancestral culture of the Uros, who live on traditional houses they build on artificial floating islands.

Travel to the mythical Nazca lines in Peru, which can be appreciated from the air, are geometrical silhouettes representing animal figures. These were created by the Nazca culture over a thousand years ago.

It boasts with magnificent natural beauty due to its snow peaks and glacial lakes. It also features Peru's highest peak: Huascaran Mountain. This place is excellent for trekking and other mountain sports.

Manu National Park is Peru's largest natural reserve and World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It's important for its overwhelming biodiversity: one of the utmost of the world. This diversity is due to the fact that the reserve covers a quite large altitudinal gradient, and so all the ecological zones possible in the Amazon Basin.
